Well, from the first article I now know this: my personal essay for my grad school application is weak, and I am SO GLAD that I found that out before sending it in. The second article helped me to revise and edit my personal essay for VCFA. I noticed immediately that it was incredibly rough; it had every sentence beginning with "I" and only answered questions directly. I find the second draft to be much more appealing from the first, but it is nowhere near finished enough for me. I'm kind of a perfectionist. (And a worry wort.)
Ironically, I already knew most of the things that are meant to be on a resume because at my job I used to help people write resumes every day. We have a program on the computers called WinWay Resume Maker that puts a resume together for you! It's foolproof (as long as you can read and understand basic comprehensive questions). I never thought to include my personal writing under the "other interests" category in a resume, but I will definitely include it. I know that resumes are supposed to be updated regularly, and I won't lie I've slacked on updating it recently. Hopefully I'll have the time to update it tomorrow. No, I WILL have the time to update it because it is important and needs to be done. I've never written a cover letter, I don't even know that I know the use for one. But now, thanks to the article, I know that the three times you should use one are if you: a) know the person by name, b) know something about the job requirement, o
